“Oppenheimer” premiered in the summer of 2023, becoming one of the most successful films of the past year with a global revenue of $952 million (over 23,000 billion VND). Inspired by the life of scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb,” the film received widespread acclaim from audiences and critics, achieving a “fresh” rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is also considered the strongest contender for the Best Picture award at this year’s Oscars.

Following “Oppenheimer” is Emma Stone’s “Poor Things” with 11 nominations. The film gained attention when it premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion. The historical epic “Killers of the Flower Moon” by actor Leonardo DiCaprio and legendary director Martin Scorsese ranks third with 10 nominations.

A regrettable absence in this year’s nomination list is Tran Anh Hung’s “The Pot-au-Feu.” Previously, the film helped the Vietnamese director win the Best Director award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. According to Variety, the project was highly praised by industry professionals and considered a strong contender for the Best International Film category. However, in the end, the film did not make it into the final list of 5 films competing for this award this year.
