JD Davis, who recently won a $6.9 million arbitration case against the San Francisco Giants, has now been released by the team, making him a free agent.According to his MLB.com transaction log, the Giants officially let go of Davis on Monday. Despite securing a significant salary through arbitration, the Giants signed All-Star Matt Chapman shortly after, effectively closing the door on Davis’s starting third base position. Following his release, Davis went unclaimed on waivers and is now free to sign with any team. However, since his arbitration reward did not guarantee his salary, the Giants only owe him approximately $1.1 million in termination pay, leaving Davis to seek compensation elsewhere. At nearly 31 years old, Davis boasts a career batting average of .261 and a .775 OPS. Throughout his time with the Houston Astros, New York Mets, and Giants, he has accumulated 68 home runs, 215 RBI, and a 3.1 WAR. While Davis provided a solid performance for the Giants after joining them at the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline, his defensive capabilities have been a concern, particularly at third base where he ended last season with -11 defensive runs saved. Despite this, Davis’s offensive contributions could still make him an attractive option for teams in need of infield depth. Potential destinations for Davis include the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, and New York Yankees, although the recent signings of veteran players by the Blue Jays may impact their interest in Davis.
