Trent and Amber Johnston, stars of the reality TV show “7 Little Johnstons,” recently opened up about their daughter Elizabeth Johnston’s high-risk pregnancy, shedding light on the challenges and fears they faced throughout the process. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the couple discussed their concerns regarding Elizabeth’s health and the complications associated with pregnancies in women with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism.
One of the primary concerns for Trent and Amber was the necessity for Elizabeth to undergo a cesarean section (c-section) under general anesthesia due to the narrowness of her pelvis, a common characteristic of individuals with achondroplasia. This presented significant challenges, as the procedure required Elizabeth to be completely unconscious, making it crucial for the baby to be delivered swiftly.
Amber explained the gravity of the situation, highlighting the potential risks involved if complications arose during the anesthesia process. She emphasized how any issues could lead to further complications for both Elizabeth and the baby, underscoring the importance of a smooth and successful delivery.
Despite their worries, Elizabeth reassured her parents, expressing confidence in her partner’s genetic makeup and downplaying the potential risks associated with the pregnancy. She remained optimistic about the situation, assuring her parents that everything would be fine.
However, Trent acknowledged another fear that weighed heavily on their minds – the prospect of not being able to accompany Elizabeth into the operating room during her c-section. As parents who had always been by their children’s sides during medical procedures, Trent and Amber faced the reality of not being present for this crucial moment.
Instead, Elizabeth’s boyfriend, Brice Bolden, took on the responsibility of accompanying her into the operating room, a role typically filled by Trent and Amber. This marked a significant departure from their usual routine, adding to the emotional strain of the situation.
In November 2023, Elizabeth gave birth to a baby girl named Leighton Drew Bolden. Despite the challenges leading up to the birth, Trent and Amber were overjoyed to welcome their granddaughter into the world. They expressed admiration for Elizabeth’s transition into motherhood, praising her for her resilience and natural maternal instincts.
As they reflected on Elizabeth’s journey into parenthood, Trent and Amber marveled at the bond they shared with their daughter and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness her growth as a mother. They emphasized the importance of cherishing the moments with their children, acknowledging the inevitable challenges that come with parenting.
Now, with the arrival of Leighton, Trent and Amber look forward to supporting Elizabeth and Brice as they navigate the joys and challenges of raising their daughter. Despite the uncertainties and fears they faced along the way, Trent and Amber remain steadfast in their love and support for their growing family.
