Chris Simms Sparks Debate Over Jalen Hurts’ Status as “Most Overrated Player in Football

Former NFL quarterback and current NBC analyst Chris Simms has stirred controversy by dubbing Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts as the “most overrated player in football.” Despite Hurts’ impressive track record, including leading the Eagles to three consecutive playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in 2022, Simms remains skeptical of the young quarterback’s abilities.

During an appearance on the “PHX Cardinals Podcast” during Super Bowl week, Simms expressed his dissenting opinion, citing Hurts’ surroundings as a factor in his success. He argued that the Eagles boast one of the best offensive lines in football and a strong receiving corps, suggesting that other quarterbacks could thrive in a similar situation.

Simms specifically mentioned Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray as a comparable talent, implying that Murray could achieve similar success if placed in Hurts’ position. He emphasized that when Murray is at his best, he is on par with Hurts, pointing out their similar statistics and the talent surrounding them.

Despite the controversy sparked by Simms’ comments, he stands by his assessment, highlighting the need for a balanced analysis of Hurts’ performance and the factors contributing to it. Both Hurts and Murray have demonstrated their abilities on the field, but according to Simms, the quarterback’s success should be evaluated in the context of their team dynamics and supporting cast.
