Dak Prescott Takes Legal Action Against False Sexual Assault Accusation

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is taking legal action against a woman who he alleges is falsely accusing him of sexual assault. The lawsuit, filed in Collins County, Texas, stems from the woman’s accusation regarding an alleged incident in 2017.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, Prescott, 30, filed the complaint on Monday, citing defamation, slander, civil extortion, business disparagement, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and civil conspiracy against the woman. The lawsuit comes after the woman’s attorneys purportedly sought $100 million in exchange for not pursuing criminal charges related to the alleged assault.

The woman’s accusations surfaced in a letter sent to Prescott’s alma mater, Mississippi State, and subsequently to the athlete’s lawyers. In the letter, dated Jan. 16, the woman claimed that Prescott sexually assaulted her during an encounter in Plano, Texas, seven years ago. She alleged that the incident had a profound impact on her mental well-being and strained her relationship with her fiancé.

Prescott’s attorney, Levi G. McCathern, has vehemently denied the allegations, stating that Prescott has never engaged in nonconsensual sexual conduct. The lawsuit also asserts that the woman’s actions are an attempt to tarnish Prescott’s reputation and seeks $1 million in monetary relief, which Prescott intends to donate to the Joyful Heart Foundation, a charity supporting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

In a statement, McCathern emphasized Prescott’s commitment to cooperating with authorities and his empathy for survivors of sexual assault. He condemned the woman’s alleged attempt to profit from what he described as malicious lies, asserting that Prescott will not allow her to do so.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Prescott remains focused on his responsibilities both on and off the field, including his recent commitment to fatherhood. Despite the challenges posed by the lawsuit, Prescott is determined to uphold his integrity and support the causes he believes in.
