A tragic incident occurred at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, resulting in one fatality and 22 injuries from gunfire. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves provided details during a press conference, stating that those injured ranged from 8 to 47 years old, with half under the age of 16. Tragically, a mother of two was among the deceased.

The shooting took place near Union Station, and three individuals, including two juveniles, were initially detained, with firearms recovered at the scene. Subsequently, authorities charged the two juveniles with gun-related offenses and resisting arrest. They are currently held at Jackson County’s Juvenile Detention Center awaiting further legal proceedings.

Further charges are expected as the investigation progresses, with Chief Graves characterizing the incident as a dispute escalating into gunfire. The victim, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, was a well-known radio DJ and a mother.

Of the injured, eight had immediately life-threatening wounds, seven had life-threatening injuries, and six suffered minor injuries, according to Ross Grundyson, chief of the Kansas City Fire Department. Children’s Mercy Hospital treated 12 children, with nine sustaining gunshot wounds, none in critical condition.

Following the incident, law enforcement quickly responded to secure Union Station, where the shooting occurred. The area remains an active crime scene as investigations continue, though there is no immediate threat to public safety.

In response to the tragedy, the Kansas City Chiefs expressed condolences to the victims and their families, affirming the safety of their players, coaches, and staff. The Kansas City Police Department urged witnesses to come forward and provided guidance for those in need of reunification assistance.
