Hyundai CEO Joins Thai Prime Minister, Unable to Bring Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour to Korea for This Reason

In Asia, only two countries have managed to invite Taylor Swift to perform: Japan and Singapore.

After Thai Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed regret over failing to bring The Eras Tour to Thailand, Korean media revealed that South Korea also failed in convincing Taylor Swift to perform. On his personal page, Chung Tae Young, CEO and vice chairman of Hyundai Card, expressed disappointment at missing the opportunity to bring the global superstar to Korea for a performance. Chung Tae Young is a prominent figure in event organization in Korea, having previously invited many international artists to perform in the land of kimchi, most recently Bruno Mars.

This powerful CEO remarked: “We should have heard the phrase ‘Hello Seoul’ after successful negotiations, but in the end, we only heard ‘Hello Tokyo.’ Governments of other countries supported negotiations with Taylor Swift, while we couldn’t even show interest in the negotiations because Korea lacks large-scale venues.”

Chung Tae Young continued to comment on the amazing atmosphere at The Eras Tour concert at the Tokyo Dome in Japan: “I observed many different areas within the Tokyo Dome to see how the concert was organized. It was a very lively scene, with a large audience all around. Each song had a different stage setup. Especially, it was the first time I witnessed a stage with two bands on each side, creating a fascinating mirrored image.”

Japan and Singapore are the only two Asian countries that managed to invite Taylor Swift to perform The Eras Tour.

In addition to the lack of large stadiums, South Korea may not have been able to invite Taylor Swift to perform due to the singer’s unpleasant memory in the country. In February 2011, Taylor Swift held a concert as part of the Speak Now World Tour at the KSPO Dome in South Korea.

At that time, the singer was not yet popular in South Korea, so the concert fell into a state of being undersold. The KSPO Dome has a capacity of up to 15,000 people, but only 4,725 tickets were sold, making it the only concert that failed to sell out during the Speak Now World Tour. The South Korean audience also had mixed feelings about Taylor Swift, to the point where she could comfortably ride the subway without being recognized.

The night of Taylor Swift’s concert in South Korea in 2011 was undersold, marking an unpleasant memory for her in the country.
