Mark Zuckerberg is sitting on a mountain of the hottest technology products today, with a price tag that can reach nearly 1 billion VND – Image 1.

Meta – the parent company of Facebook is on track to hoard hundreds of thousands of highly sought-after semiconductor products as the technology giant seeks to lead the race in artificial intelligence (AI).

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told The Verge that the technology giant will have over 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPU chips by the end of 2024. This is the type of chip that companies like OpenAI use to train and deploy AI models such as ChatGPT.

And that’s not all. Zuckerberg hopes Meta will accumulate a total of 600,000 GPU chips, including Nvidia’s A100 chips and other AI chips, by the end of this year.

This detailed information comes as companies compete to secure the limited supply of Nvidia’s AI chips to create the best products. Nvidia’s products, the world’s largest chip designer, are in high demand by both large companies and startups, causing the tech giant’s stock to rise more than 200% in the past 12 months. Overall, global semiconductor demand has far exceeded production capacity.

And it seems that Meta is leading in the quantity of AI chip orders. In 2023, Nvidia delivered 150,000 H100 chips to Meta, according to data from Omdia Research obtained by The Verge. This figure is three times higher than the estimate for other companies including Google, Amazon, and Oracle, according to Omdia. Each H100 chip is estimated to cost from $25,000 (613 million VND) to $40,000 (980 million VND), CNBC quoted estimates from Raymond James.

Meta’s chip mountain highlights the company’s strategy with a focus on AI. In July last year, Meta launched a large language model called Llama 2 to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 model. In September, Meta released the latest version of Ray-Ban smart glasses, including an AI assistant. In the same month, the company also introduced famous AI chatbots, available on Messenger and WhatsApp. Zuckerberg said the company is currently deploying the training of the Llama 3 model.
