Who is Pat Spencer? Why Did the Warriors Sign a Former Tennis Player? Pat Spencer, born on July 4, 1996, is one of the most accomplished tennis players at the collegiate level in the United States. During his time at Loyola Maryland, he recorded 231 assists, the highest in NCAA history. He also holds the record for most points in the Patriot League with 380 points.
In 2019, Spencer’s outstanding performance earned him the Tewaarton Award, presented to the best collegiate tennis player.
Despite being highly regarded and with a promising path to the professional Premier Lacrosse League open, Pat Spencer remained determined to pursue a basketball career. In his final year of college, Pat Spencer transferred to Northwestern University and became a key player for the basketball team, averaging 10.3 points with a shooting percentage of 43.6%.
With his basketball skills still developing, Pat Spencer received an invitation to play for the Washington Wizards’ G-League team, the Capital City Go-Go, in 2021. He later moved to the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Golden State Warriors’ G-League affiliate, averaging 15.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and shooting 43.1% from the three-point line during the 2023/24 season.
Pat Spencer’s impressive performance earned him a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors, providing him with the opportunity to be called up to the main roster at the CHASE Center and to play alongside stars like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
