The mix-up in award presentation at the 2024 Grammy Awards has stirred up anger among Nicki Minaj’s fans. The term “Grammy scam” is trending on the social media platform Twitter.

However, when the Academy announced that the Best Rap Song award went to “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, before quickly deleting the post, it caused confusion. In reality, the song “Scientists & Engineers” by Killer Mike, featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane, was the actual winner in this category.

Although the tweet was deleted, netizens managed to capture screenshots and spread them across social media. This mix-up has caused confusion as many believed it was Nicki Minaj’s first Grammy win after being nominated 12 times.

Unfortunately, at the awards ceremony, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice lost in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category, losing to Billie Eilish and FINNEAS. This is another instance of the famous rapper walking away empty-handed at the Grammys.

The Recording Academy has not responded to inquiries from The Hollywood Reporter about the mix-up.

Social media users have expressed various opinions, with some believing that this incident is evidence of the industry conspiring against Nicki. The hashtag #Scammys has become a trend on Twitter.

Earlier, Nicki Minaj criticized the Recording Academy in 2022 when her song “Super Freaky Girl” was categorized as pop instead of rap. Minaj shared on her personal page: “They keep moving the goalposts when it comes to me. Why is it only Nicki who gets moved?”.

In 2020, Minaj criticized the Grammys for not awarding her the Best New Artist award, despite having seven songs on the Billboard charts simultaneously. “Never forget that the Grammy didn’t award me the Best New Artist when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on Billboard and bigger first-week numbers than any female rapper in the last decade,” Minaj said.

In this 66th Grammy Awards, female artists dominated the nominations, including SZA, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and the boygenius group.
