Superman and the superheroes with speed rivaling that of Flash in the DC universe DC unveils the first trailer for The Penguin, the next series in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman universe DC releases the first images of the Joker and Harley Quinn duo, officially closing the Joker 2 project James Gunn discussed a Marvel and DC collaboration project, but that’s a story for many years from now Decoding the origin and power of Blue Beetle, DC’s newest superhero Superman: Legacy is the opening film for the new DC film universe (DCU) after the expansion of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) officially concluded with the Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom project. Although focusing on the story of Superman, Superman: Legacy will also bring many other superheroes to the big screen. The special thing is that these characters, although familiar to DC fans, have never been explored in any previous live-action projects.

Specifically, these superheroes include Metamorpho (played by Anthony Carrigan), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), The Engineer (María Gabriela De Faría), and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion). Since Superman: Legacy will not explore the origin and background of Clark Kent, it is very likely that all these characters will be members of a superhero team led by Superman and have been active for some time in the DCU.

Additionally, fans have reason to believe that Superman: Legacy will make a mark when personally directed by James Gunn, the new CEO of DCU. Previously, the director had been very successful in exploring less-known characters in comics, such as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy or DC’s Suicide Squad. Peacemaker, in particular, even gained enough popularity to have his own television series, receiving positive reviews from audiences.

Although it is not clear how these 5 new superheroes will be related to Superman, they promise to be special characters with the future of the DCU, serving as a bridge to other superhero teams. For example, The Engineer, a scientist with a liquid body that can create solid objects, has a close relationship with the Authority – a superhero team that also appeared in the first chapter of the DCU.

Metamorpho, a superhero with the ability to transform into various elements and states of matter, is a permanent member of the Outsiders – a team that appeared in the Brave and the Bold comic series and is also the title of the first Batman movie in the DCU. Furthermore, both Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific have relationships with the Justice Society of America. Finally, Guy Gardner, as many fans know, is a Green Lantern and one of the founders of the Justice League.

It can be said that introducing these 5 new superheroes in the first DCU film is a necessary preparation for future projects to create a more tightly connected and coherent film universe. Moreover, this is also a way for James Gunn to bring a breath of fresh air to the general audience and DC fans in particular, instead of focusing only on well-known names like Superman (in Superman: Legacy) or Batman (in The Brave and the Bold).

Superman: Legacy will start filming in March 2024 and is expected to be released in the summer of 2025. David Corenswet has been chosen for the lead role this time, along with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
