Jonathan Owens, NFL safety and spouse of renowned gymnast Simone Biles, is set to embark on a new chapter in his football career. The 28-year-old athlete has inked a two-year free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears, marking a significant move in his professional journey.
Owens, who previously donned the jersey of the Green Bay Packers under a one-year deal in 2023, will bid farewell to Wisconsin as he heads to Illinois to join the Bears. During his tenure with the Packers, Owens showcased his defensive prowess with 84 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and three passes defended across 17 games. His impactful contributions extended to the postseason, where he recorded seven tackles in two playoff appearances.
Confirming the news on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Owens expressed gratitude to the Packers and their fans for the warm welcome and the opportunity to play for the team. His heartfelt message reflected appreciation for the camaraderie experienced in Green Bay, emphasizing the lasting memories forged during his time with the franchise.
Simone Biles, the decorated Olympic gold medalist and Owens’ supportive spouse, joined in celebrating his latest career milestone. Taking to X, Biles conveyed her heartfelt thanks to the Packers’ faithful for embracing both her and Owens during their time in Green Bay. As the couple prepares for a new chapter in Chicago, Biles exuded excitement, marking the occasion with a series of jubilant posts expressing anticipation for the move.
While Biles affectionately teased about the convenience of direct flights to Chicago, she also took a moment to express her admiration for the city’s iconic culinary offerings, including its renowned hot dogs and pizza. Her enthusiastic posts underscored her pride in Owens’ achievements and her unwavering support as he pursues his football aspirations.
Owens’ journey to the NFL began after signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. He subsequently made his NFL debut with the Houston Texans in 2019, where he spent four seasons before joining the Packers.
A standout athlete at Missouri Western State University, Owens garnered recognition as Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2017, showcasing his talent and dedication on the collegiate stage before transitioning to the professional ranks.
As Owens embarks on this new chapter with the Chicago Bears, supported by his loving wife Simone Biles, the couple’s journey continues to inspire fans both on and off the field, epitomizing resilience, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence.
