“Five by five” in basketball refers to achieving at least five points, five rebounds, five assists, five steals, and five blocks in a single game. It’s a rare feat that highlights a player’s versatility and all-around skills on the court.
In NBA history, “five by five” performances have been infrequent, with only a select few players accomplishing this feat. Since the 1973/74 season, there have been a total of 22 recorded instances of “five by five” in regular-season games.
Legendary center Hakeem Olajuwon leads the pack with six “five by five” performances to his name. He is the only player to record a “five by five” along with a triple-double in the same game. Additionally, Olajuwon narrowly missed achieving a double-double “five by five” on one occasion.
Other notable players who have achieved “five by five” include Andrei Kirilenko, who accomplished this feat three times, and Anthony Davis, who did so once in 2018.
The first player to achieve a “five by five” in NBA history was George Johnson in 1978, while the most recent occurrence was by Victor Wembanyama in 2024, making him the youngest player to achieve this milestone.
