Exploring the Future: The Next Generation of Danish Royals as Queen Margrethe Steps Down

As Queen Margrethe formally steps down in Copenhagen, the spotlight shifts to the next generation of Danish royals. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, set to become the King and Queen Consort of Denmark, will be accompanied by their 18-year-old son, Prince Christian, who will be named first in line to the Danish throne. Here’s a closer look at the four children of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary:

  1. Prince Christian: At just 18 years old, Prince Christian is poised to be the next in line to the Danish throne upon his father’s ascension. Currently attending high school in Gentofte, north of Copenhagen, he is expected to head to university in August. Prince Christian celebrated his 18th birthday with a grand royal gala dinner at Christiansborg Castle in October, attended by young European royals like Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, and Princess Estelle of Sweden.
  2. Princess Isabella: Born on 21 April 2007 in Copenhagen, Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe is currently 16 years old. She attends high school in the Copenhagen suburb of Hellerup and has been making more public appearances recently. Notable events include attending her brother’s 18th birthday earlier this year and participating in a photo call for her confirmation in April 2022.
  3. Prince Vincent and 4. Princess Josephine: Born on 8 January 2011, 13-year-old Prince Vincent will be third in line to the Danish throne from 14 January onwards. His twin sister, Princess Josephine, born just minutes later, will be fourth in line. Although still young, the twins have made occasional official appearances alongside their renowned family, including a 2018 trip to the Faroe Islands. As the Danish royals embark on this new chapter, the younger generation is expected to play an increasingly prominent role on the global stage.
